The University of Zurich, Center for Research in Surgery is looking for
a Veterinarian 50-70% in research (limited to 1 year with the possibility of extension)
The Surgery Research Center supervises translational research projects of all clinics and institutes of the University of Zurich. The proximity and the excellent partnership between the University of Zurich, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) and the university hospitals also create unique opportunities for interdisciplinary basic and applied research.
The core competencies consist in the establishment of new large animal models for the development and testing of new surgical techniques and medical devices (in the field of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, visceral surgery and transplantation, fetal surgery, neurology, trauma and reconstruction), as well as in the optimization of imaging processes ( MRI, CT, elastography, fluoroscopy, echocardiography, etc.) for the diagnosis and treatment of various cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction or heart failure.
Your tasks As a member of the veterinary team, you will work on various research projects, which include the following areas of responsibility:
Veterinary support for researchers including anesthesia, surgery, pre- and post-operative care of large animals
Contact person for researchers and processing their inquiries regarding the planning and implementation of new projects, including the technical processing of animal experiment applications
Advising scientists on aspects of animal welfare and the 3Rs Active contribution to the smooth running of operations (ordering and organization of consumables and medicines as well as maintenance of the infrastructure)
Initial and continuing education
your profile Completed studies in veterinary medicine Promotion to Dr. med.vet. desirable Experience and training in the field of laboratory animal science desirable (FELASA B, FELASA C) Experience and interest in handling and working with large animals Great interest in scientific work You are a reliable, precise and well-organized personality with a quick grasp and an independent and careful way of working You enjoy working in a team with veterinarians and nurses High level of motivation and flexibility, including willingness to work weekends, public holidays and shifts
