Post Summary
The Comparative Medicine Unit (CMU) in Trinity College Dublin (TCD) seeks applications for the role of Designated Veterinarian (DV) on a three-year fixed term contract.
This is an important and dynamic role that has previously reported into the Director of the CMU and currently reports into the Senior Management Team comprising the Chairs of the Animal Welfare Body (AWB) and Animal Research Ethics Committee (AREC) and Institutional Compliance Officer(s). The individual in this role will work on-site with the Chief Technical Officer 1 and Administrative Officer to provide the optimal care and welfare of the animals in the unit.
The successful candidate will be supported in becoming fully conversant with the role of Designated Veterinarian as specified by S.I. No. 543 of 2012. They will be able to avail of external training opportunities and in-house mentorship and guidance.
The CMU is the central animal services unit in TCD. It is registered and approved under EU and National legislation (SI 543 of 2012) by the Competent Authority, which under directive 2010/63/EU is the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) in Ireland. It provides a comprehensive research service to all approved researchers who use animals or animal products.
CMU staff operate within several physical locations across the University to support ground-breaking biological and medical research in areas such as Biochemistry, Immunology and Genetics. The successful applicant will work as part of the management team, which together with the Technical Officers and Laboratory Attendants form this vibrant and dynamic unit.
Post status: 3-Year Fixed-Term Contract
Hours of Post: 35 hours per week
Salary: This appointment will be made on the Senior Medical Scientist Scale (€56,130 – €75,062) at a point in line with current Government pay policy. Please note, candidates cannot be appointed above point 5 on the Senior Medical Scientist scale without having Fellowship membership of AMLS. monthly/weekly payscales. (tcd.ie)
